An apple a day, keeps the corona away!
7:40 AMIt’s been a while since we’ve made visits to our friends and neighbors with a yummy treat! This year we are going to dive into the Fall season with caramel apple gifts! 🍎 🍏 We sure could use an opportunity to serve and give and lift our spirits!
INGREDIENTS
Apples-firm and crisp
Caramel squares/bits
Chocolate Chips
Water
TOPPINGS (chopped)
Oreos
Mini m&ms
Toffee bits
Kit Kat’s
Snickers
Chopped mini marshmallows
Sprinkles
Chopped almonds, walnuts, peanuts
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Wash apples with baking soda to get wax off
2. Dry and remove stems
3. Insert a stick into the stem end--about 3/4 of an inch so that they are in there firmly. You can pierce the apple with a knife first to make the sticks go in more easily.
4. Refrigerate the apples. This will make the caramel harden faster.
5. Melt caramel in the microwave by adding 2 T water to Carmel. Each bag makes 5 apples. I made 2 bags and added 4 T. Zap in microwave for 3 minutes stirring each minute.
6. Dip apples in melted caramel
7. Roll the apples in toppings. Place the apples on waxed paper or aluminum foil that's been greased or coated with cooking spray. As some of the caramel drifts down and pools on the bottom, it will take these toppings with it. So, you may need to go back and gently pull the toppings back up and pat them back into the caramel. I ended up doing this a few times. Eventually the caramel hardens enough that everything stays put.
8. Chill apples for 15-30 minutes 9. Melt chocolate chips (or other flavored chips).
10. You can drizzle your melted chocolate with a spoon.
11. Wrap and give or cut with an apple sliced and eat!
